Furuno to exhibit at WIND EXPO 2022 September

2022-08-29

Furuno will unveil its solutions to support sea area management and “Symbiosis with the fishing industry” in the offshore wind power generation industry.

FURUNO Headquarters: Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture - Beginning August 31, President and CEO Yukio Furuno will exhibit at the 2nd WIND EXPO Autumn Tokyo Show, a trade fair focused on offshore wind power generation. Employing our expertise in marine electronic technology accumulated over 70 years of innovation, we will propose solutions to provide total support for offshore wind power generation projects with two key business themes: Symbiosis with fisheries, and sea area management.

Symbiosis with Fisheries for the Offshore Wind Power Generation Sector

Furuno's history was built by fishermen. Every day, we promote innovation in coastal fishing by making full use of our marine sensing technology and expertise in fisheries and marine resource management.

We are committed to applying these initiatives to offshore wind power generation facilities, providing solutions that create a true symbiosis between offshore wind power generation activities and the fishing industry. By observing and collecting data on the fishing grounds surrounding offshore wind energy facilities, including data such as fish volume, water temperature, salinity, and currents, we create intelligent monitoring systems that help improve the management efficiency of coastal fisheries areas.

Collaboration with Vissim to bring about a comprehensive marine management system in the offshore wind power generation sector

Furuno is working on sea area management for offshore wind energy production, including sea area surveillance radar systems, operations planning/management and operator safety management schema, and weather/maritime information.

In collaboration with Vissim AS (hereinafter referred to as "Vissim"), a VTMS (Vessel Traffic Management System) provider with extensive worldwide experience, we have developed a comprehensive marine management system incorporating two specific software products. These include a suite of maritime coordination and asset management software combined with a new generation of sea area surveillance software.

Due to this integration and the ability to manage all the information required for coordinating marine operations within a single interface, our system benefits the industry in several key areas.

Through incorporating concepts such as the visualization of marine information, ensuring safety at sea, and improving the operational efficiency of the marine energy industry, Furuno is helping to achieve efficient, safe, and secure operations in the offshore wind energy market.
