FURUNO’s HermAce is awarded Lloyd’s Register world’s first Digital Twin Ready certification

2020-10-05

First in the industry to be certified by Lloyd’s Register as a Digital Health Management (DHM) Provider

HermAce, developed by FURUNO HELLAS S.A., an overseas subsidiary of FURUNO ELECTRIC CO., LTD. (headquartered in Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture; Yukio Furuno, President), is awarded Lloyd’s Register (LR) Digital Twin Ready certification, one of the requirements to be recognized as a Digital Health Management (DHL) Provider.

About Furuno’s HermAce

HermAce has been developed by Furuno Hellas, an overseas subsidiary of Furuno. It uses a Digital Twin (a virtual replica) of bridge equipment based on data streamed directly from the vessel that offers live identification and diagnosis of problems.
Using this Digital Health Management (DHM) system, it is possible to remotely monitor, maintain and test the onboard equipment and this capability will deliver cost reductions to the ship operator clients as maintenance will be more predictable with testing requirements satisfied digitally.

About Lloyd’s Register (LR)

LR, a marine classification society based in London, is an accreditation body that evaluates and examines whether the technology, such as structure and equipment, conforms to the standards, in order to assure the safety of navigation.

About Digital Twin READY

Digital Twin READY is one of the certifications to determine if the Digital Twin technology, which LR defines as a requirement to be recognized as a Digital Health Management (DHL) Provider, is operational.
Recently, with the development of autonomous ships or unmanned ships that are using IoT (Internet of Things) or AI (Artificial Intelligence), the digitalization of ships is progressing. Along with this, in order to maintain the safety of the ship, development is underway regarding systems and services to grasp, on land and in real-time, the operation status of the ship using the Digital Twin technology, and to mitigate the risk of non-operation due to abnormalities in the equipment, by detecting those problems at an early stage. In order to make sure that this operational performance and maintenance system are appropriate, LR created a data-driven compliance using four levels (Digital Twin READY, Digital Twin APPROVED, Digital Twin COMMISSIONED, and Digital Twin LIVE), and established them as requirements for Digital Health Management (DHM) Providers.

Furuno Hellas S.A. is the first company to be awarded the Digital Twin READY certification, and be recognized by LR.
The Digital Twin READY certification is evaluated by the operation flow, the software compatibility and the information security. HermAce is in accordance with all of these, and it has been certified as a high reliability Digital Twin tool.

Future developments

In addition to improving the operational accuracy of HermAce, Furuno will further expand this service worldwide to strengthen its after-sales service, so that Furuno users can use it safely and with peace of mind, wherever the location.
